Athlete Reviews
Teaming up with Mateo for my first Ironman was the most important aspect of my preparation. He took all of the guess-work out of my training, all while keeping me healthy and injury free. In addition to his coaching expertise, Mateo's charisma and energy are second to none; this, combined with his passion for sport and people make Mateo not only a great coach, but also a great friend.

Running in the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon was the most aggressive athletic endeavor I had ever undertaken. Prior to that, the longest run I had completed was a 5K. Knowing Mateo as a friend and colleague, he was the obvious choice of coach.
During the eight months leading up to the event, I was blown away by the level of personal attention I received as a Trinity Athlete. From a detailed training calendar to helpful and insightful email and phone communication, I felt truly prepared as I was standing in the marathon starting coral.
The sense of pride and accomplishment that I felt as I crossed the finish line is something I will never forget. Thank you Mateo!

The coaching and personal commitment that Coach Mateo gives to us is second to none. He knows when to be tough and critical, yet he can also be a goofball. He is the best coach I have ever had.
Amazing coach, mentor, and mench.

Greetings Master,
Wow, what a great experience yesterday. I’m still high as a kite…and more sore than I’ve been this whole training season…in a good way.
I want to say, for the event I did yesterday, I felt PERFECTLY trained and prepared. I know that 10 miles is a far cry from 26.2, but it was a significant point in my training, and a terrific confidence builder. Thank you for your superior ability to prepare me in the way that you do, with an attention to detail, both in my training calendar and to me as an individual. I am completely satisfied with the program!
I was thrilled this morning when I checked the detail on my 40 minute recovery session…once again, what you’ve prescribed is EXACTLY what I need (walking)!
Thanks my brother. I seriously would NOT be where I am today without your training and expertise.

In May 2007, I had the realization that I wanted to run a marathon. I had never run more than an hour and was never involved in racing. I choose the Long Beach Marathon, which was just 5 months away. Mateo gave me a structure that fit into my schedule and took into consideration my fitness level and other commitments. He has shown me the recipe to become an endurance athlete along with specifics of each training session. Within 5 months of dedicated training with Mateo, I felt very prepared and strong to run the marathon. He took me from casual jogger to an endurance athlete. A month after the marathon I jumped into the Santa Barbara half marathon and then moved onto trail running in the San Francisco Bay area. The two trail runs that were ran this past spring I placed 1st in the woman's category. Mateo coaches from his heart and knowledge and truly cares for each individual athlete to see succeed."
P.S. You have to get his recipe for the best recovery drink out there: MATEO SUPER GREEN SMOOTHIES!

For over five years Mateo has been instrumental in my life. Not only in endurance sports such as the Ironman and ultra marathon, but in my life outside endurance sport.
As a partner in an advertising agency and the father of a one year old daughter, he understands my priorities and is able to have me competing at a level beyond my imagination.
Mateo has a wealth of knowledge and an endless well of energy that has allowed me to surpass all my goals while at the same time staying injury free throughout my training.

Training under Mateo's coaching has totally taken me to the next level in triathlon this season. His training program has made me stronger and more confident in all three disciplines, and I credit his personal ‘hands-on' approach with helping get me through a few injuries and setbacks.

The race at Stanford was awesome. Thanks so much for all the encouragement and the advice you have given. I have been racing competively in swimming since I was 8 or 9 years old and I have never finished a race feeling so satisfied as I did on Sunday. I found myself smiling to myself during the race for no reason except for that the whole expereince was simply enjoyable. Maybe it was the great range and display of athlecticism or all the support we recieved throughout the race. I was extremely nervous before Sunday and I was really doubting if I could do this and was feeling furstrated with the all too familiar feelings of pre-race anxiety. However, after I finished I was estatic and throughly happy with all the training etc. I had done to be able to finish. Anyways, thank you for all you do. The sucess of this team and the awesomeness (i know its not a word but there is nothing else to describe it) of this sport in general is truly admirable and inspiring.
